European Parliament Passes the EU AI Act 

The European Parliament passed the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act) on March 13, 2024, marking the world’s first comprehensive set of major regulations targeting artificial intelligence. Taking a “risk-based” approach to regulation, the AI Act applies to AI system deployers, providers, and distributors/importers and has significant extraterritorial impact. The provisions are set to come into effect gradually, starting with a ban on unacceptable-risk AI categories six months after implementation and reaching full force by mid-2026.
